Education and training

Secondar education, Higher education or University: there are plenty of forms of education that can open the door to working in the branch.

Secondary Vocational Education (MBO)
There are plenty of studies relevant to the plant material reproduction sector at MBO level. For example, laboratory studies or technology. Because all greenhouses use the very latest techniques.

Higher Vocational Education (HBO)
In the Netherlands there are four Universities of Applied Sciences that specialise in green education.

University Education (WO)
Plant Sciences at Wageningen University is the only university study in the Netherlands that focuses specifically on plants. This study offers specialisms such as plant breeding, plant pathology and the cultivation of arable and horticultural crops.

Plant Breeding Business School
Wageningen University also offers the Plant Breeding Business School, aimed at enhancing education and capacity building for breeding companies. Spearheads here are:

  • Strengthening post initial training and course.
  • Improving visibility in, and in collaboration with, higher education programmes.
  • Supporting companies in their educational policy and life long learning.
  • Specific training for SME.

Plant Breeding Academy
The Plant Breeding Academy is a professional training programme set up by the UC Davis Seed Biotechnology Center in the USA. The courses are intended to augment the number of highly trained breeders.
