Social affairs and conditions of employment
Plantum plays a crucial role when it comes to concluding labour agreements in the plant reproduction material sector, and operates in this respect on behalf of employers. In co-operation with the trade unions (FNV Bondgenoten, CNV BedrijvenBond and De Unie) Plantum works on ensuring good conditions of labour in the sector.
CLA Glastuinbouw
Breeding companies and nurseries that are members of Plantum are covered by the CLA Glastuinbouw. For this CLA a generally binding declaration is always requested. If the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment (SZW) (Dutch) decides to declare the CLA Glastuinbouw generally binding, then the terms of the CLA apply to all the companies in the sector. Companies that are not members of an employers' organisation such as Plantum and LTO Nederland, are still obliged to comply with the terms of this CLA.
Social funds
The agricultural sector, including the greenhouse horticulture sector, has a number of social funds. Separate CLAs are concluded for this purpose.
Occupational Health & Safety Handbook
Horticulture seed companies that are members of Plantum have developed an Occupational Health & Safety Handbook in collaboration with the trade unions. This handbook outlines measures and precautions that companies can take to ensure safe working conditions for their staff. The handbook can be consulted by all employees of horticulture seed companies on arbocatalogus.com (Dutch). The Occupational Health & Safety Handbook has been approved by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment. An Occupational Health & Safety Handbook has also been compiled for the greenhouse horticulture industry. For more information see stigas.nl (Dutch).
