The sector makes a significant contribution to the further sustainability of agriculture and horticulture by producing healthy and resilient parent material that contributes to more sustainable cultivation systems with less use of crop protection, suitable water, energy and fertilisers.
As such, the sector contributes to solutions for sustainability issues in cultivation and further along in the chains. The sector also plays an important role in various other sustainable development goals, such as securing food security, increasing well-being in the world and meeting chain and consumer requirements with regard to individual products.
Good parent material is the basis for qualitatively and quantitatively improved production of plant products.
